I’ve been looking into SS Bobby Towns to see if I can find any records of Joseph Raynor’s employment on SS Bobby Towns, which might reveal his real name. As every family member research Joseph’s ancestry knows, he is Sicilian by birth, so it is likely he changed his name. Which makes it difficult to research his ancestry.
The SS Bobby Towns was a coastal steamer. Rail did not reach North Queensland until 1921 (Mackay) and did not reach Townsville until 1923. Therefore transport in/out/ around North Queensland was via sea.
